Romans Chapter 2: Judgement of God.
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man whoever you are who judge, for whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
Therefore [knowing the righteous judgment of God, yet do the same] you are without excuse. In passing judgment on another you yourself are condemned. The state of every person being, what he has detailed in the latter part of Chapter 1; hearts turned to idols, denying God, body dishonoured, mind darkened through no fear of God. That you yourself being in this very state, yet you pass judgement on another.
But we know the judgment of God is according to the truth against those who practice such things.
In contrast the judgment of God is right and true. That He is just in the judgment He passes on those who practice such things. The truth of God, and what is expected of us is not far from every heart. Yet, by condemning another you seek/think you yourself will be made exempt from judgment of God. By pointing the faults of another, you try to cover your own. You justify yourself in your own sight.
[Or] do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to each one according to his deeds:
The fact God, gives us leeway, bares with us is not meant to be justification, But God giving us time to turn away from the errors of our ways. [in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart] unwillingness to heed correction and turn away from sin you are setting yourself for judgment of wrath.
Judgment of God: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honour, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness-indignation and wrath and tribulation and anguish on every soul of man who does evil.
Love God and love your neighbour as yourself is [the golden rule], Matthew 22:37-40 While the basic essence of the path of wrath is self-seeking: the pursuit of things at the expense of or without due regard for any. And do not obey the truth: that is what may be known of God is evident yet they chose not to accept it.
Both to the Jew and the Greek are alike [in both reward and punishment]: for there is no partiality with God. Though the order may differ. As the Lord says: “the first will be last and the last first.”
For as many have [sinned without the law] will also perish without the law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law. [not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;]
Without The Law.
Gentiles, who do not have the law, do the things of the law [by nature] show the work of the law written in their hearts, [although not having the law are a law to themselves], who show the work of the law written in their hearts their conscience bearing witness, between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them. in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ.
That the gentiles who do not have the law given to them, will be judged according to the deeds they have committed according to the light that is present in their hearts. “God will judge the secrets of men.” They themselves condemning and excusing themselves. [That it is present in everyone of us to know good and evil, inherited from Adam & Eve].
Under The Law. [Romans 7: detailed expression of this state given.]
Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God, and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, and are confident your yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.
Gives an example, that in knowing the explicit law of God, even as to be guide and a teacher, yet do you break them? That you make your stand and boast in knowing God, yet by breaking His law you dishonour God.
The main point he is making is, knowledge of God’s will – His law does not suffice, but the one who does what is acceptable is justified. And uses a Gentile without law to express his point, that if such a one does the precept of the law he will be accepted and if a Jew, who knew the law and yet failed to keep it, is not. Therefor only the doers of the law are accepted: may it be through explicit knowledge [written code] or as guided by conscience.
And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfils the law [keeps the righteous requirements of the law], judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are transgressor of the law? For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
Circumcision: is a symbol of righteousness. As it says “Abraham received the mark of circumcision as a sign of the righteousness he had by faith while uncircumcised.” Therefore a Jew who bares the mark of circumcision yet breaks the law of God, is considered uncircumcised. And a Gentile who is uncircumcision yet keeps the righteous requirements of the law can be considered circumcised. Therefore circumcision/righteousness is not physical aspect but the state of the heart and in the law justification is in the doing of it.
“Righteousness is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter.”
