A Study on the Book of Romans.

Romans 12-16: General Conduct of the Children of God.

Romans Chapter 12: Service to God & One Another.

Therefore, present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God which is your reasonable service:

Now that you are redeemed [spirit and body]: your spirit born again and united with the Lord, your bodies washed [sanctified] and brought to life by the Holy Spirit. That you are and made able therefore hold yourselves in holiness, present yourselves for righteousness and do not let sin reign in your body:

  • present your members as instrument of righteousness to God. Romans 6:13
  • for this is the will of God your sanctification: you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each one should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honour. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
  • he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lust of men, but for the will of God. 1 Peter 4:1-2

and be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of  God.

  • that you should not walk as the rest of Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding  darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance thats is in them because of the blindness of their hearts….. But you have not so learned Christ…. that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.  Ephesians 4:17-25
  • But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;… For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light [for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth] finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. [Ephesians 5:3,8-10]
  • If then you are raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2

The world is fallen, its thoughts and deeds are fallen [who were dead in trespasses, and sins in which you once walked according to the course of this world according to the prince of power of he air, the spirit that is at work in sons of disobedience. Ephesians 2:1-2 Whats is acceptable and right in the sight of the world ought not to be for those who are saved. Their lives standard is not to be determined by the standard of the world. [e.g. Fornication is an acceptable means of identifying mates in the world, it is expected, even encouraged in the world. But this standard have no place among the children of God. Another is, Let “each one forge his/er path, do what seems good to them.” is a principle of the world, but the word of God says we have each turn to our own way and thus have fallen away from God. Same sex marriages is good and acceptable in the sight of the world, but it is contrary to the word of God, and while in the world we saw no fault in it. That the things we have given consent to even strived for, while we walked in the world is not the determining factor, our mind have to be renewed to a new way of thinking.

If our spirit is born and our bodies brought to life, our mind is what needs to be renewed. That it may break from the old state of thinking as it did while walking in blindness and sin, lusting and desiring after the things of the world. As it says in Colossians if you are raised with Christ [.. has raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6] seek those things which are above; Setting your mind on things above, not on things on earth/world. Even our ambition and goals have to change, we are not to strive for the same goals as the world does but our focus to be of the eternal things.

Therefore break from [Fornication [sexual immorality], (covetous which is idolatry), passions and evil desires …] AND put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering, bearing with one another and forgiving one another.

Let not anyone: think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

That there is no boasting, no reason one should exalt himself over another. What we have we have because God has given it to us. As it says in Corinthians, “for what makes you differ from another? and what do you have you did not receive? Now if you indeed receive it why do you boast as if you have not received it?

Rather:

We being members of one body in Christ: having gifts differing according to the grace given us let us use them:

What God has given us He has given us to the service of others. That the body of Christ may be edified and built up, each according and to the measure of Grace we have received ..[Prophecy-In proportion to faith, ministry in ministering, teaches in teaching, exhorts in exhortation, gives in liberality, leads with diligences, mercy with cheerfulness.]

Aspects of the renewed mind : Aspects that are contrary to the world.

Love without hypocrisy [be sincere, do not profess love and have malice in your hearts], hate what is evil, cling to whats is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another [seek not your own honour]. Be diligent, fervent in spirit in service of the Lord; Rejoice in hope, patient in tribulation, continue steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.

Bless who persecute you, do not curse. Share in the joy and sorrow of others, be of the same mind towards one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble [lowly]. Be not wise in your own opinion.

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. Live in peace with all as much as possible. Never seek vengeance, it belongs to God. “Vengeance is mine I will repay,” says the Lord.

Do good to your enemy: if hungry feed him, if thirsty give him a drink.

As Jesus taught saying:

  • But love your enemies, do good and lend, hopping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great and you will be sons of the Most high. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. [Luke 6:35]
  • If you love those who love you what, what reward have you. [Matthew 5:46]

Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
