Romans 1-8: The fall of man, to the redemption, restoration and glorification in Christ.
Romans Chapter 1: The Fall of Man.
The summary of what the gospel is.
The gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by resurrection from the dead.
Authority and domain of God given ministry.
Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience of faith among all nations for His name among whom you [Romans] also are the called of Jesus Christ.
The area of service that is given him, in the service of God, to which the nations [Gentiles] fall under including you Romans.
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. For I long to see you that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established—[I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.]
I serve God in my spirit?
The service he renders to God was not according to his own plan and desires but according to the leading of the Holy Spirit, that he does not make his plan lightly but with careful prayer seeking the leading of the Lord. Corinthians statement: “Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes and No, No?” 2 Corinthians 1:17
but was hindered until now – the hinderance we will discover in the 15 chapter, to be the work he still he had to accomplish preaching the gospel of Christ where His name is not known. Until which point he having no permission from the Holy Spirit to do so. In Acts 19:21 it says “Paul purposed in the Spirit..” a plan to visit Rome conceived.
that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other gentiles. Being a debtor both to the Greek and barbarians, wise and unwise.
The impartation in the perfecting of their faith, and correcting and setting their foundations right is the spiritual gifts. That is all manner of Gentiles civilised and uncivilised are given unto him for ministry. They also being are under the jurisdiction God has granted to him.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also the Greek. For the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written : “the just shall live by faith.”
The salvation of God is made available to all both Jew and Gentile, That is the righteousness of God obtained through faith alone.
For the wrath of God is revealed from haven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what maybe known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
God’s truth is made apparent to all. God has shown it all in the things that are created. That we are all without excuse, as David declares in his psalm, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge.” Psalm 19:1-2 That the very existence of God is declared in all things that are made.
Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in thoughts, and their foolish heart were darkened.
Because mankind was unwilling to recognise God, or give Him thanks for the blessing they have, they drifted away from Him. Their thoughts being corrupt and heart darkened, they sought to worship created things and the works of their own hands. [images of man and animals] Mankind’s fall into all manner of sin and evil doings starts at this point, the denying of God.
The First act: [Idolatry]
God gave them up to the uncleanness, in the lusts of their heart to the dishonouring of their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, whose blessed forever. Amen.
We sought to lavish our love, acts of worship into what is not God, which resulted being given up to the uncleanness of the heart, which is the corruption of our passions [sexual immorality]. Women to women and men to men turning away from what God has intended. As such, Homosexuality is a product of the fall of mankind, and something we are in need to be rescued from through Christ. There is no exception given to it, rather a direct result of denying God.
Our bodies are meant for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. In turning away from God, and becoming idolaters, we offer our bodies to all manner of sexual immorality through the corruption of our desires. Paul says, “Every other sin a man commits is outside of the body, but a person who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18
The level of sexual immorality [whatever shape or form] present in our society, is an indication of how far we have departed from God, and have idolised other things in our hearts.
The Second act: [Unbelief]
And even as they did not like retain God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a debased mind, to do things which are not fitting.
Because man has sought to push God out of his thoughts, and not consider Him at all, the mind was also corrupted. The thoughts of man became corrupt to conceive and do evil things. Not only that, because we gave no regard for God, we admire and encourage such acts in one another that our collective path may lead us to destruction.
Wherever we push God out from immediately that void is occupied with darkness and evil. That God’s presence in faith and in thought is a restraining force in our lives. Pushed God out of our hearts, desires become corrupt. Refused to give God place in our thoughts, our mind darkened. This is the state we find ourselves in, our hearts darkened, our bodies dishonoured and our minds corrupted.
“Professing to be wise, we become fools.”
