A Study on the Book of Romans.

Romans Chapter 10: Righteousness of Faith to All.

That Israel missed what it was seeking though they sought it with much zeal for God. In seeking to establish their own righteousness they have not accepted the righteousness of God, that comes through faith in Jesus Christ.

For Christ is the end of the law to everyone who believes.

  • The righteousness of the Law: “the man who does those things shall live by them.”
  • The righteousness of faith: “the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart.” [the word of faith that is preached]

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. With the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

There is no distinction between Jew and Gentile: the same Lord over all is rich to all who call on Him.

Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame [believes unto righteousness].  & Whoever calls on the name the Lord shall be saved [mouth confession is made unto salvation.].

how they call Him in whom the have not believed? how they to believe on Him of whom they have not heard? how are they to hear without a preacher? how shall they preach unless they are sent?

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”

But they have not all obeyed the gospel… [who has believed our report Isaiah 53.1] So then faith come by hearing and hearing by the [Spoken] word of God.

But have they not heard? Speaking of Israel: Paul uses the same arguments that he gave for those who do not believe in God. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made.  Romans 1:20

That God has made Himself known to all in the things that He has created.

The havens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night revels knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. [all the world is made aware.] Their line [sound] has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.  Psalm 19:1-4

But did Israel not know? [Israel was made aware of what is to come.]

That is, Israel may be provoked to jealousy through the mercy shown to the Gentiles. [“I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation..”]

Jesus gives an example of this in the parable of the prodigal son. That one son who lived a life of sin and disobedience was accepted when he sought mercy, while the other son, who stood by the father and worked in the fields refused to come in when he was made aware, the acceptance of the wayward brother. That through his works he sought favour.

That is the gentiles who did not seek righteousness, have found it: the righteousness of faith [“I was found by those who did not seek Me, I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”]

But of Israel: they have not accepted His call? [“All day long, I have stretched out My hands..”]
