Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who a touched Me?’ ” [Mark 5:25-31]
But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. And He said to her, “Daughter, be of a good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” [Luke 8:46-48]
A lesson: why did the Lord bring forward in the midst of all the people, where she will be confronted with such an embarrassing and life threatening situation. She has received her healing, the Lord could have let her go on her way. But Jesus stopped to look around and see who was it that did this new thing.
Until this point people have come to the Lord to be healed, have asked Him to lay hands on them and so on. But this woman was the first one to have in her heart a faith, that would reach out and take what she needed from the Lord. “She said in her heart if I could only touch Him, I would be healed.” The multitude were thronging Him but only she was healed. So the Lord, brought her forward in the midst of the crowd to declare what she had done so others could learn from her faith. Later the bible records as many as have touched Him, they were made well.
Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well. [Mark 6:56]
