Basic Definition:
Death as in the separation of the spirit from the body.
- Those who die in Christ the spirit is brought to the presence of the Lord in haven.
- Those who die apart from the Lord, their spirit enters into death and Hades.
To Rise [Resurrection]: The main aspect is the spirit returning to its natural body or putting on the spiritual body. In terms of the spiritual body it has to be associated with the return to earth. Even if the saints put on spiritual body in haven, they are not considered raised until they appear on earth. They are raised from death in the perspective of those on earth.
For they are all living to Him.Examples: Jarius daughter, Widow from Nene, Lazarus, and Tabitha all were raised from the dead, they came back into their natural body and all did die again. And Jesus Raised on the third day.
Questions: When do those who die in the Lord put on the spiritual body. How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come? [1 Corinthians 15:35]
For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the havens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from haven, if indeed, having be clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed that mortality may be swallowed up by life. [2 Corinthians 5-1-4]
Just a consideration: if this tent is destroyed? then we will have to be on the building from haven, the heavenly body. The basic reasoning being, they put on the heavenly body when they are in haven. Just as they put on earthly body when they are on earth.
Last Days Resurrections:
- First Resurrection: All who are in Christ’s since the ones that take part are those in whom the second death has no power. This will live and reign with Christ for 1000 years. [Revelation 20:4-6 ]
- Judgment Seat of Christ: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what is done, whether good or bad. [Judgment seat for believers reward ?? knowing the terror of the Lord we persuade men? [we are known to God and to you] [2 Corinthians 5:10]
- Taking in line with parable of the talents and minas: the faithful servants of the Lord were given cities to reign, ruler over many things, this in the aspect of the reign of Christ on earth.
- The White Throne, Resurrection of Judgment: The dead who will rise after the [first resurrection] and a thousands years reign of Christ. The final: The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. The ones raised here are judged according to the deeds recorded. Books were opened and another Book was opened: Book of Life. [Revelation 20:12-13]
- Second Death: Is the final event of casting away into the lake of fire. Along with death, Hades and satan and his prophet. Anyone not written in the Book of Life. [Revelation: 20:14-15]
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. [John 5:24]
Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth – those who have done good to resurrection of life and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. [John 5:28-29] Death before Chris – [Old Testament]: Scripture making reference of those who die before the work of Christ.
- The Patriarchs recorded as they gathered up with their people
- Samuel the prophet: And the woman said to Saul, “I saw a spirit ascending out of the earth.”…. Now Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” [1 Samuel 28:14, 15]
- The and the kings of Israel, Judah recorded as they rested with fathers.
- Daniel: “But you go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of days. [Daniel 12:13]
- Lazarus and the rich man: So it was that a beggar died, and was carried by angles o Abraham bosom. the rich man also died and was buried. And being in torment in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar of, and Lazarus in his bosom. [Luke 16:22-23] A parable told by Jesus, that those who died in those days have two places to enter into the place where Abraham was, though not in haven yet a place of rest and Hades a place of torment awaiting judgment.
To Die in the Lord-[New Testament]: After the work of Calvary. Are not taken to death or hades but to haven with the Lord.
- Penitent sinner: And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradis.” Luke 23:43
- To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. [2 Corinthians 5:8]
- Those who die in the Lord: Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me. “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”” Revelation 14:13
Summary of the Old.
The place of rest in terms of those who have died before the work of calvary is described in the parable of Lazarus and and the rich man. Jesus speaks as one which is not haven yet is a place of rest, described as the bosom of Abraham [Abraham bosom may refer to be gathered to their people, fathers]. The place of rest is a concept that is described in 1st Samuel:28 and Daniel 12. The first required to know why his rest was disturbed and the latter being told he will go into his rest and will be raised up into his inheritance on the last day. To this Jesus describes the second place named Hades. A place of torment, that will hold the dead in him till the day of judgment.
Now Daniel was told that he will rise to receive his inheritance on the end of days. The term of end of days was also used by Paul: “on whom the end of the ages has come upon 1 Corinthians 10:11. That we have entered the end of the ages since the resurrection of Christ. Taking this in consideration what is the significance of those who are in the grave will here the voice of the Son of God and will rise to the resurrection of life or condemnation according of John 5:28-29.
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. [1 Peter 4:6]
Those who are in the grave, addressing those who had perished prior to calvary. To them the Lord has spoken the gospel to as He descended into the belly of the earth that they may live and enter haven with Him. As evidence of this Matthew records the saints that have died coming out and appearing to many, yet he does not say they remained but just that they showed themselves.
and the graves were opened; and many of the bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. [Matthew 27:52-53]
That those saints of the past were raised along with Christ after hearing His voice. But from this point forward a deferent age begun, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” they do not experience death as those before them but are taken to haven to be with the Lord.
The Order of Events:
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But to each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all enemies under His feet. The Last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:22-24
- Christ return, He is the firsfruits.
- The Elect: The gathering up of those who are His at His coming, living and those asleep.
- His reign: He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
- The thousand year reign of Christ on earth.
- Then comes the end: death destroyed and final judgment.
The Last day.
“but should raise it up on the last day, And this the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up on the last day…. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day…. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life…. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. [John 6:39-40, 44, 47, 54]
The last day as in the return of the Lord and the thousand year reign. Taken in the expression of 2 Peter 3:8 that with the Lord a day is like a thousand years and thousand years as one day. We have to take it in this context since all the event described here after all make reference to raising of the elect at the return of the Lord and the beginning of the thousands years reign.
The Elect of the Lord at His return both Living and Asleep.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of haven with power and great glory. And He will send His angles with a great sound of trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of haven to the other. [Matthew 24:30-31]
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angles, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven. [Mark 13:26-27]
Gathering the Lord’s Elect:
- Farthest part of earth: those presently alive.
- Farthest part of heaven: those who have fallen asleep in the Lord.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. [John 11:25-26]
Two states of Christ’s Elect at His return
- Though he may die, he shall live: Those who have fallen asleep in Christ are raised with spiritual body.
- Whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die: Those who are alive at His return will never die yet are changed into His likeness in a moment.
…nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed – in a moment, in twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible and we shall all be changed. [1 Corinthians 15:50- 52]
The Same as above: Those who fell asleep in the Lord: are raised up – putting on spiritual body, and the elect of Christ alive at the time are changed to look like them.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are sleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. [1 Thessalonians 4:14-17]
Here two aspect of expressing the resurrection of those who sleep in Christ: God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus AND the dead in Christ will rise first. This two aspects are expressing as the same thing. Being raised in the eyes of the earth and returning with the Lord the perspective of haven.
Now I saw haven opened, and behold a white horse. And He who sat on Him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war…. His name is called the Word of God. And the armies in haven clothed in fine linen, white and clean followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. [Revelation 19:11-15]
Referring to the return of the Lord, to which follow the destruction of the beast and the false prophet and the subduing of this kingdoms, then the devil is bound up and the thousands years. The reign of Christ on earth.
Overall Conclusion:
The various terms used for the rising of the dead as in: the dead are raised up [incorruptible], and they are gathered from the ends of haven, God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus, the dead will rise first: the armies of haven clothed in fine linen, white and clean: Are all speaking of [the raising and return] of all those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. The difference in expression is due to the perspective of earth and haven. Raised up refers to the perspective of earth, that they had departed in death and now are raised up. And returning God will bring with Him those who are asleep in Jesus. Since those who are living and elect are not raised up since they have not died, yet have put on the heavenly body and are changed into their likeness.
When John speaks of saying: “and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. [1 John 3:2] it is to our perspective on earth and not of those who sleep in the Lord are in His presence. Since it is written for us who are alive and are awaiting His return.
[Question]: If already dead why not come back with the rest with the Lord?: Who were killed for witness of Christ and His words and did not worship the beast] And they live and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ. [Revelation 20: 4-6]?
