In this brief study we are going to look into what a Christian’s responsibility is in influencing the affairs of a democratic world. For the purpose of this study we are going to examine the highly publicised US political scene because the boundaries of parties are far more clearer and the consequences of the outcome far more reaching. 

The main text we have used to address this issue is Paul’s statement in regards to the Last Days that said, “Do you not remember that, being yet with you, I was saying these things to you? And now you know that which is restraining for his [the son of destruction] being revealed in his time. For the mystery of lawlessness is working already; there is only the One [Holy Spirit] at present restraining it, until He might be gone out of the midst.” 2 Thess. 2:5-8 

Here Paul is speaking about how the Holy Spirit through His church is working to restrain the revelation of the man of Perdition which is commonly known as the Antichrist. That is in restraining him from forming his world government, restraining him from putting forward unjust laws, restraining him from enslaving and darkening the minds of people and so on. For the man of perdition to be revealed a system has to FIRST be put in place in order for him to rule over the entire world with ease. 

So how do we determine our part in these days? The Lord said, “The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man having sown good seed in his field. And WHILE the MEN are SLEEPING, his enemy came and sowed weeds in the midst of the wheat, and went away. And when the plants sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.” Matthew 13:24-26 Please Note, what allowed the enemy to propagate his lies in the world is that MEN were ASLEEP, that is to say, they did not take their position to stand against the wiles of the devil. Sinners SIN because they are deceived according to the age of this world, however Christians are meant to be a light for those who are in darkness. The Lord said, “You are the light of the world. A city lying on a hill is unable to be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but upon the lampstand, and it gives light to all those in the house. Thus let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and they should glorify your Father in the heavens.” Matthew 5:14-16

Light and Salt are the examples which the Lord used to represent a Christian in the world. Light to expose the works of darkness and Salt to act as preservative in order to slow down the process of degradation. The world is on the path of darkening from generation to generation by a greater measure of depravity yet each successive generation is oblivion to the state they find themselves in. Without the opposition of the Holy Spirit through His Church to restrain evil the world would have descended into total chaos long ago. Evil that is SIN has to be restrained, as Paul in Galatians said, “[The Law] was added on account of transgressions, until the seed to whom promise has been made should have come.” Galatians 3:19 This is saying, Israel was preserved by the Law until Christ came, without which there would not have been a holy remnant to fulfil the promise of God. A Law is a NECESSARY aspect of governance for a world that is in the FLESH, therefore it is IMPERATIVE that such laws have to be godly and just. The point is we have a part to play in the implementation of such laws that help to restrain the prevailing degradation of the culture of the age. 

The Lord said, “Then will they deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of My name. And then many will FALL AWAY, and they will BETRAY one another, and will HATE one another; and many False Prophets will arise, and will lead many astray. And because Lawlessness is to be multiplied, the love of the many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:9-12 Lawlessness will be multiplied meaning the world will grow darker, the question is how fast is that darkness descending upon us? If we seek to bury our heads in the sand that is we have chosen to SLEEP, then it will only serve to accelerate the speed by which lawlessness will grow. The end of which is that under our watch because we have failed the generation we are to serve, UNJUST LAWS will be put in place. And when the pressure is applied many will fall away and will betray one another, all because we remained SILENT when we should have spoken.

So we need to determine for ourselves which choice best serves the purposes of God. So in this study we will examine the issues that OUGHT to persuade a Christian vote, that is the Preaching of the Gospel, the Right of the Unborn, the Welfare of Young Children, and the Affiliation of Governments. We will also look at the deception of the enemy in regards to the Environment, that some teachers  have used to coerce Christian votes. 

The Preaching of the Gospel: So the first and foremost of our aim has to be by all means to promote an environment by which the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is able to go unhindered, as Paul said, “First of all, therefore, I exhort entreaties, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings, to be made on behalf of all men for kings and all those being in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable before God our Saviour, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-3 Here, Paul is pointing directly at the government we are living under, which determines the manner of life we are to lead, and the consequence this will have on our effectiveness in sharing the gospel. So our complicity in this dark hour will make it so preaching the gospel will be restricted, even unlawful. And those who will bravely speak the truth in the dark days to come will be betrayed by those, who have chosen to remain silent and complicit. We are meant to oppose the obvious degradation of the culture, but we are meant to do it in love and peace, as Paul said, “Let all things of you be done in love.” 1 Cor. 16:14 

So if we do not vote to preserve the freedom of speech now, neither will we be permitted to preach the Gospel later, because it will be dimmed as hate speech, since the truth of God will most certainly offend some. Therefore we either compromise to water down and twist the truth of God or we will be made silent, all because we have chosen  to turn a blind eye to the events that are right before our eyes. Paul said, we ought to pray for kings and those in authority that we might live peaceable lives so that many may come to the knowledge of the truth. And in a democratic world this also means voting for the one that makes this possible, that is for Free Speech. Now, we do not set our hopes on ANY earthly government, since all governments will degrade by some measure as the day gets darker, but we can be salt in the world in order to slow it down.

The Rights of the Unborn: We will begin by addressing the root cause that destroyed the right of the unborn. Paul wrote, “Let marriage be honourable in all, and the marriage bed undefiled; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.” Hebrews 13:4 That is, the devaluation of the sanctity of marriage in the eyes of society and the elevation of the pursuit of immoral sexual satisfaction is what made the consequences of sexual union that is children to be unwanted. Where there is no committed relationship, the burden of raising a child can be daunting and many opt to take abortion as an escape. And in a society that has grown to worship sex, and is growing ever more sexualised by making sexual content EASILY available even to the most vulnerable members of society, the process of making abortion to be readily available has become a very lucrative industry. And ever more pushing the moral boundaries further and further even to the point of birth, that we even deny babies that are aborted alive the right to assistance for life.  

The world is not seeking to implement preventive measures in addressing the issues of the culture which ought to have been the foremost effort. But the world has chosen to deal with the after effect and have simply broadened the term preventive measure to include the killing of the innocent, by dehumanising and making the unborn to be valueless and the process of killing as common and thoughtless. Through the implementation of war of words, so that we may NOT attribute worthiness to life to the most innocent and vulnerable members of society. Ezekiel says, “For they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have committed adultery with their idols, and even sacrificed their sons whom they bore to Me, passing them through the fire, to devour them.” Ezekiel 23:37 As Pastor [Mark Driscoll] said, sex has become an idol and for a culture that worships sex, children are offered up as a sacrifice for the price of our careless pursuits. 

No one can express the depth of the brutality of this injustice to us, we have to seek to inform ourselves in order to lift the veil that is upon our own eyes. So that we may not be conformed to a world that is duped into thinking the unborn babies are just clumps of cells or are termed a foetus in order to strip them of the value of a human life. Then we will be able to act according to Christian conscience that is to say according to the heart of God. So our vote should be swayed foremost by determining who is seeking to prevent the unrestrained destruction of the unborn and who is seeking to unleash the unprecedented brutality of the murder of the innocent even up to the time of birth. And who is seeking to address the root issue by reestablishing the honour of marriage and who is eager to tear it down. DO NOT be FOOLED, this topic is the GREATEST EVIL of our day, it is an expression of a society teetering on the very verge of destruction when the weight of the blood of the innocent weighs heavily upon it. [Seth Gruber] in a public address gave the example of Gideon, that God required him to tear down the idol of his fathers house before God brought deliverance to the nation of Israel. Now, the US also has the opportunity to tear down this idol so that GOD may bring a great revival to the land, so we ought not squander our VOTE, the consequences are literally of Life or Death.

Many have sought to circumvent the Christian responsibility toward the unborn by mixing it with the poor of society quoting the words of the Lord, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the LEAST of THESE, neither did you to Me.” Matthew 25:45 The least of these is a reference to the ones that cannot help themselves, and there is no one more helpless than the unborn. Nevertheless, we ought not have to undo one in order to do the other, the poor we will always have with us, in order to do them good as the Lord said, and no amount socialist ideology has ever come close to solving the issue of poverty. 

The Welfare of Young Children: The Scripture that best address the Welfare of Children is the statement of the Lord that said, “And whoever shall cause to stumble one of these of the little ones believing in Me, it is better for him that a heavy millstone should be hung around his neck, and he be sunk in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of the CAUSES of sin. For the stumbling blocks are necessary to come, but woe to the man by whom the offence comes!” Matthew 18:6-7 It is clear from the words of the Lord, that children ought to be our priority and God will not take lightly those who put a cause for them to stumble. And in the last four years we have witnessed the implementation of unimaginable dark policies to rob these young impressionable minds of their innocence by sexualising them in schools through perverted doctrines and the mutilation of their bodies in some social experiment, all the while depriving their parents of their God given parental authority. Please Note, it is the SILENCE they demanded by threatening parents of depriving them of their own children, all the while parents had to watch helplessly when the children are being destroyed right before their eyes, all because Christians did not vote according to conscience. 

So how a Chritian votes will determine if we are going to give them another chance to advance what they have started. Do not be mistaken democracy means our hand is along with the one who implements such policies. Paul said, “Lay hands on no one hastily, nor share in the sins of others; keep yourself pure.” 1 Timothy 5:22 Laying on of hands is an act of giving authority, so Paul is saying do not be quick to do this unless you partake in their sins. Meaning who we vote for matters. Nor do we have the right to be silent and sit on the sidelines since righteousness means we are OBLIGATED to do what is RIGHT according to the working of the Spirit of God in us, as James said, “The one knowing to do good, and not doing, it is SIN.” James 4:17 Now, Please Note,  this is not to lay on us unnecessary burden, but to awaken us to our moral responsibility, to be a Salt and Light. So we may not frivolously squander our right to vote on petty matters. 

The Affiliation of the Government: God said to Abraham, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:2-3 And David also in Psalms said, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.” Psalm 122:6 There is NO OTHER nation in the world that engenders such promise of blessing from God as Israel does. And in the light of the rise of antisemitism in the world the position of the government we select ought to bear much weight. [Derek Prince] taught that the admonition of the Sheep and Goat nations in Matthew 25:31-46 was in respect to the nation’s treatment of the brothers of the Lord that is the nation of Israel. God is not done with Israel, as Paul said, “For as regards the gospel, they are enemies on account of you; but as regards election, beloved on account of the patriarchs. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:28-29 So our vote should reflect those who have the best interests of Israel. 

The Environment: The Last point we will address is the concern some Christians have for the environment being swept up with the mass hysteria that the world is on the brink of irrevocable disaster. Such fear mongering Pastors seek to persuade our vote. But the answer to such obvious false teaching is the word of God, that tells us the earth will be around for a 1000 years yet to come in Revelation 20. The question is whom do we believe? Now, this does not mean we are careless with the environment, Genesis states, “Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Genesis 2:15 And in Revelation John says, “[God will], destroy those who are destroying the earth.” Revelation 11:18 So we should care how we treat the environment because it affects our health and God has given us the mandate to care for the earth. So we must promote Responsible use, but we are not to act in fear? The people who push these radical policies, to destroy economies by propagating lies, are doing so because they believe their actions are for the greater good, believing they are saving the planet. And population control is a big part of it, all based on the lie that the planet is on the verge of dying, so they act and promote fear, sowing hopelessness in the youth. 

But Isaiah tells us, the earth is reacting, “The earth is violently broken, the earth is split open, the earth is shaken exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, and it will fall, and not rise again.” Isaiah 24:19-20 We are TIED to the earth, our very body is formed from it, so the earth is affected by our sinful deeds as much as ourselves. And the blood of the innocent have been spilt from the fringes of the East to the furthest of the West, the one thing every nation on earth seems to have in common. 

The Lord has also told us that, “many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray.” False prophets also means false teachers as Peter said of our day, “But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you also, who will stealthily introduce destructive heresies.” 2 Peter 2:1 False teachers in this respect are those who seek to put us at ease with the culture of the world, as James said, “Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility with God? Therefore whoever has chosen to be a friend of the world is appointed an enemy of God.” James 4:4 Now, we hope to give the benefit of the doubt that these people who seek to coerce us to act against the truth of God, have done so in ignorance, nevertheless we ought not be easily persuaded. 

The point is the manner we are to vote becomes clearer when we consider Biblical principles, and the immense responsibility that comes with it EVEN when we think we ought to be Gospel minded and not Political. As [Eric Metaxas] said, such belief  is the lie of the devil that seeks to make the vote of Christians VOID, because it stands to oppose and restrain the kingdom he seeks to establish. So when voting according to Christian Conscience, if the barbaric treatment of the unborn, the plight of innocent impressionable children being mutilated, does not move you because you do not want to be political because you have set your face towards heaven, then the ability to fulfil your God given mandate to preach the gospel to all nation with freedom ought. Meaning you cannot choose to be on the sideline as the servant who buried his one mite. There is truly ONE choice that is available for an honest Christian in the days of such polarisation, otherwise you are one that has set himself to be against the Lord and has chosen to scatter while others have set themselves to gather. So if the Gospel is the most priority that you hold dear then vote to be able to do that unhindered.
