Do Same Sex Practicing Person Go to Heaven?

“Lest of my having come again, my God should humble me as to you, and I should mourn over many of those having before sinned and not having repented of the impurity, and sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced.” 2 Corinthians 12:21

In order to answer this question we first have to ask another question. Why is this condition of the flesh singled out from all the others sins it is listed along with? Paul admonishing the Corinthians writes, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous ones will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor coveters, not drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Paul makes it clear here and says those who make a practice of such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

So when we ask, “Do homosexuals go to heaven? It is the same as asking do the unrighteous go to heaven? Then the answer is no, only the righteous in Christ do. It is a matter of identification. Because if we are in Christ and His Spirit abides in us, we are no longer sinners, we are no longer fornicators nor adulterers nor homosexuals but we are the righteousness of God in Christ. [2 Corinthians 5:21, Philippians 3:9] That is Jesus Christ is our righteousness & He is also our strength. [Isaiah 45:24] And Paul writing affirming this new standing in Christ says, “And some of you were such. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 That is what we were in the past no longer applies. So when we identify ourselves according to the flesh, that is through the continual practice of our sins then it is evident we are not in the Spirit. We are saying I am a confessed and practicing sinner! We have a mind that is set on the flesh and that is death.

Now does God prevent anyone from coming to Him? NO, there is not a sin His blood has not paid for and God calls every sinner to come to Him, “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not reckoning their trespasses to them.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 However when we receive Him every one of us are changed from the manner we walked before, with no exceptions. And Peter illustrates this change and says, “For the time past is sufficient to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having walked in sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and abominable idolatries. With respect to this, they think it strange of you not running with them into the same overflow of debauchery, speaking evil of you.” 1 Peter 4:3-4 And John expressing the same point says, “Anyone having been born of God does not practice sin, because His seed abides in him, and he is not able to continue sinning, because he has been born of God.” 1 John 3:9 So we do not walk in the same manner as we did before because His word and His Spirit abides in us. That is the Lord will turn our heart away from any manner of things that does not accord to true righteousness and holiness.

God is not the cause of the blind, the deaf or any other elements that afflicts our body and mind. So when we identify ourselves according to the desires of our flesh we charge God with double standard, to form mankind with those specific desires yet condemn him at the same time. We then have taken the world’s definition to be the testimony of the truth and not the word of God. Therefore same sex passions are not in any way different from any other elements that seek to twist our sexual desires away from what God has intended. And God has provided a means by which we may overcome it, “For if you live according to flesh, you are about to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13 When He says by His Spirit it is to say, not by our own strength or striving or will power, but God Himself will work for those who seek His help. It is not so we suffer in silence or to be condemned by the condition that afflicts us but to overcome it with full assurance that is through the knowledge of who we are in Christ and the might of His power that is at work in us.

However, when we accept the world’s definition and the world’s expectation to be grounds on how we ought to perceive ourselves and act then, we have given our ear to those spies, that brought an evil report and disheartened the children of Israel from possessing the promises land. Because we see our condition to be a true expression of an integral part of ourselves then we are not willing to be parted from it, so we seek out means to justify ourselves in our sin. And if we take a stand against the truth of the word of God, then how does His word abide in us? “The mind of the flesh is hostility toward God; for it is not subject to the Law of God, for not even can it be.” Romans 8:7 None of us would strive to hold on to any sickness that afflicts our body or any addiction that enslaves our minds, but we would seek out a means by which we would be delivered. Therefore our desire for the remedy is solely dependent upon our perception of the condition that afflicts us. So an aversion to any form of sin we have practiced is the very basic grounds even if we have not yet attained strength to walk free from it.

Now the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And by His power God has both raised up the Lord, and will raise us out.” 1 Corinthians 6:13-14

Therefore the main questions we have to ask ourselves is are we seeking to justify the sin or are we seeking to understand the difficulties some are faced with when walking with God? Now for the latter there is hope of deliverance, since every one of us were delivered from wrong passions that have lured our hearts. “No temptation has seized you, except what is common to man. And God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will also provide with the temptation the escape, to be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 However if it is the former, it is evidence of one who has not known God.

Paul address this very point in his second letter to the Corinthians to whom he gave the initial warning to. So he writes to them hopping they have repented [turned away] from the manner of sins they have walked before. “I may mourn over many of those who have sinned in the past and not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality and decadence which they formerly practiced.” And he takes a firm stand towards them on the grounds of his expectation, which is the strength of Christ that works in those who have believed. “He is not weak or ineffective in dealing with you, but powerful within you.” [vs.3]

So he admonishes them to see if they are truly in the faith, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.” 2 Corinthians 13:5 That is Paul expected a change in lifestyle to be a true expression of faith in Christ. However a willingness to continue to live in sin, unabated by justifying ones owns action, to be grounds to question if one is indeed in the faith.

For sin will not rule over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14

Therefore we cannot ask the questions do a same sex practicing person go to heaven? It is either the righteous in Christ or the unrighteous, there are no other grounds, no special exceptions!
