We Need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

“But if Christ is in you, the body is indeed dead on account of sin, but the Spirit is life on account of righteousness. And if the Spirit of the One having raised up Jesus out from the dead dwells in you, the One having raised up Christ Jesus out from the dead also will give life to your mortal bodies, on account of His Spirit dwelling in you.” Romans 8:10-11

When we put our trust in Jesus Christ and confess Him to be our Lord, we are united as one with His Spirit. That is to be born of God, our spirit which was dead in trespasses is brought to life through being united with the Spirit of Christ. “Even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ [by grace you have been saved].” Ephesians 2:5 However our bodies remain dead in sin, just as our spirits were. “if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin….but the spirit is alive.” Our bodies were also enslaved to the deeds committed in the flesh, accustomed to habits of alcohol, drugs, sex and all manner of activities, to which we subjected our bodies in our ignorance. But when we receive the baptism, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, our bodies are given life and raised back from deadness of sin. “through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour,” Titus 3:5-6

We are 3 part beings [spirit, soul and body]: Our faith in Christ saves us from the judgment of sin and death; through whom we are justified and made righteous, and through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we are able to live in this body, a godly life that overcomes sin. But God has made us responsible for the renewal of our minds, through the knowledge of His word. It is left to us to put His words to practice so that our way of thinking may line up with our renewed spirit and body.

“And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, for you to prove what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2
